About Pictou County Roots for Youth Society

Pictou County Roots for Youth Society serves homeless and precariously-housed youth 16-24 years of age in Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

The organization operates an eight (8)-bed emergency shelter for youth 16-24 years of age. Youth residents can access safer housing and are provided with basic needs such as food, clothing, shower, hygiene supplies, one-on-one support, and referrals to additional community agencies and health-care services.

The organization also operates a transitional housing program for youth 16-24 years of age. The transitional housing program offers youth a more independent living arrangement, while still being supported and mentored by program staff. Residents are typically attending school part-time or full-time, employed part-time or full-time, or engaged in a commitment that moves the youth’s life forward in a positive and productive way.

Pictou County Roots for Youth also offers Outreach Services for youth 12-26 years of age. Youth are connected with an Outreach Navigator who can transport youth to health, employment, and education-related appointments or programs. The Outreach Navigator can also help advocate for a youth's specific needs and goals, and reconnect youth with family when safe and possible.

The organization also operates a Community Cupboard program. The Community Cupboard serves youth 16-24 years of age as a food/ grocery top-up alternative/ resource. Youth clients can access the Community Cupboard at any time at our emergency youth shelter, and will be assisted by a frontline staff.

Join us on Saturday, February 22nd to walk and fundraise with us in the Coldest Night of the Year and help us raise vital support for those most vulnerable right here in our community.
